Lincoln ? University of Nebraska Men’s Golf Coach Bill Spangler announced Tuesday the signing of three high school seniors to National Letters-of-Intent to play golf for the Husker golf program. The list includes a local and two out-of-state signees ? Tyler Parsloe (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge High School), Mike Coatman (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southwest) and Andrew Wyatt (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest High School).
This group, which will help to fill the void left by the team’s four current seniors, is one that Head Coach Bill Spangler feels will be able to make an immediate impact.
Tyler Parsloe of Highlands Ranch, Colo. earned State Junior Match Play Champion honors in 2005 and 2006, as well as the Colorado Junior Player of the Year during both years. Parsloe additionally led his team at ThunderRidgeHigh School to the 2004, 2005, and 2006 State High School Championships. Parsloe marks the second golfer from ThunderRidgeHigh School, joining current senior Ty Capps, who was a junior college transfer (SouthMountainCommunity College).
“Tyler is a solid, consistent player who manages his game as good as any junior around,” Spangler said. “Tyler has that ?killer instinct’ you look for in a golfer. I’m also excited to have the two-time Junior Player of the Year in Colorado become a Husker.”
Lincoln native Mike Coatman, a product of Lincoln Southwest, was the 2005 and 2006 State Junior Match Play Champion as well as a three-time All-State Golf Team award winner (2004, 2005, 2006). Coatman was additionally a 2006 US Junior Amateur Qualifier.
“When Mike (Coatman) gets on a hot streak, he is as good a player as there is,” Spangler said. “He knows how to win, evident by his two State Junior Match Play titles. He can hit it long when he wants to, and has a terrific short game.”
Andrew Wyatt of Lake Forest, Ill., was a 2005 Illinois High School All Conference member as well as a member of the All-Academic Team. Wyatt also earned third place at the 2006 Illinois State Junior Amateur and two top-five finishes on the 2006 AJGA Junior Tour.
“Andrew (Wyatt) has an outstanding golf swing, and has his best golf in front of him,” Spangler said. “Andrew (Wyatt) can hit the ball long, and is not afraid to shoot a low score. Andrew has already set goals for his career here, and I am excited to help him achieve those goals.”
The Huskers wrapped up their fall schedule at the end of October with a second-place finish at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, which senior Brady Schnell also won individually. The Huskers snagged three top-five finishes this fall in just five tournaments, and resume play on Feb. 19-20 at the Texas-San Antonio Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
