Huskers Finish Seventh in Kentucky

Lexington, Ky. - Junior Elli Brown posted her third consecutive top-five individual finish of the fall season to lead the Nebraska women's golf team to a seventh-place finish in the 15-team field at the Wildcat Fall Invitational at the University Club on Sunday.

Brown, a native of Meridian, Idaho, carded a three-over par 75 in the final round to finish the 54-hole tournament in a tie for fifth with Rachel Larson from Memphis at 229.

Brown finished four strokes behind the tournament champion Amanda Mathis from Mississippi State, who managed rounds of 75, 73 and 77 to finish at 225. Louisville's Adrienne White and NC State's Lauren Doughtie, who posted the tournament's best round with a two-under-par 70 on Sunday, tied for runner-up honors at 226. Stacey Tate from Memphis took fourth at 228.

Tate and Larson helped shoot Memphis to the team title with a three-round total of 929 that included a tournament-best 298 on Sunday. Augusta State matched the Tigers' 298 on Sunday to charge up the team leaderboard to finish second at 933, four strokes behind Memphis.

The Huskers finished 19 strokes off the pace at 948 after producing rounds of 327, 307 and 314 in the 54-hole event on the 6,157-yard layout at the University Club in Lexington.

In addition to the 75 provided by Brown on Sunday, senior Chrissie McArdle bounced back from a rough day on Saturday to shoot a 79 and finish at 244 in a tie for 44th place.

Junior Allison Stewart also contributed a 79 to Nebraska's team score on Sunday, but did not place in the individual standings after being disqualified from Saturday's opening round.

Senior Andrea Carlson (Dunagan) completed the Huskers' scoring lineup with an 81 to finish the tournament in a tie for 35th place. Fellow Grand Island, Neb., native JC Stevenson also carded an 81 to match Carlson in the final standings.

Husker freshman Kate White, who entered the final round of the tournament in the hunt for a top 10 finish, struggled to shoot an 85 in the final round, fall into a tie for 27th at 239.

Nebraska will continue its fall tournament schedule next week when the Huskers travel to Boise, Idaho, for the Bronco Invitational, Monday, Oct. 9 through Tuesday, Oct. 10.
