Five Huskers Earn Spring Academic Honors

Five current and former Nebraska bowlers were among 249 student-athletes named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Spring Honor Roll on Thursday.

Karla Engh and Jamie Martin led Nebraska’s contingent on the honor roll.  Engh, who will be graduating in December with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, was also named to the 2006 National Tenpin Coaches Association All-Academic team for her outstanding spring semester.  Martin graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in family and consumer science.

Freshman Sarah Koch, an undeclared major from Ottawa, Ill., Jill Kurbyun, a pre-nursing major from Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Kayln Washburn, all earned first-time spots on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

The honor roll recognizes student-athletes who posted grade-point averages of 3.0 or better during the 2006 spring semester.  Nebraska’s 249 members on the spring honor roll included 38 student-athletes who earned perfect 4.0 grade-point averages.
