Huskers Fall in Semifinals to Baylor

Waco, Texas - The Nebraska women's tennis team fell to top-seeded Baylor, 4-1, Saturday in the semifinal round of the Big 12 Championships hosted by Baylor at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.

The Bears sealed the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 3 slots.  At the top spot, Zuzuana Cerna and Klara Zrustova defeated Imke Reimers and Pamela, Castillejos, 8-6, while Zuzana Zemenova and Zuzana Krchnakova beat Vanessa Heute and Ellinor Zugner, 8-2, at No. 3.

In singles, Milena Schulz-Gartner picked up the Huskers' lone victory against Daniela Covello at the No. 3 spot when Covello retired due to injury.  No. 5 Zemenova defeated No. 94 Hartmann, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 1 singles spot, while No. 15 Cerna beat No. 114 Reimers, 6-1, 6-4, at the No.2 spot.  At the No. 6 spot, Ellinor Zugner lost to Zuzana Krchnakova, 6-0, 6-0.   

"Despite the outcome, I'm really proud of the team," Head Coach Scott Jacobson said. "They played with tremendous heart and incredible passion.  We believed we could win and itshowed in the way we competed (Saturday).  Now we're hoping we get in the NCAA tournament."

The Huskers, who are ranked 41st, fall to 17-9 on the season with the loss.
