Huskers Finish Fourth in Oklahoma

Norman, Okla. - The No. 44 Nebraska women's golf team produced a final-round 309 to finish in fourth place at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic on Monday. NU's three-round total of 906 gave the Huskers their eighth top-five finish of the season.

Nebraska, which managed rounds of 306-291-309 on the par-72, 6,013-yard Jimmie Austin Univeristy of Oklahoma Golf Course, finished one stroke behind third-place Texas, and 39 strokes behind Oklahoma State, who claimed the tournament title with a three-over par, 867 (283-284-300).  The Huskers placed ahead of five of the other seven Big 12 Conference schools participating in the 17-team field.

"The last two tournaments we've fared pretty well against other Big 12 Conference schools," Coach Robin Krapfl said. "It is great preparation for when we host the Big 12 Championships next week."

Junior Chrissie McArdle fired a final-round 74 to lead the Huskers on the second day of competition, closing the tournament as NU's highest individual finisher. McArdle produced a 54-hole total of 224 to finish 13th.

Senior Stephanie Ruiz slipped in to a tie for 14th with 225 one stroke behind McArdle, after managing an 82 in the final round, to go with rounds of 72 and 71 on Sunday.  

Sophomore Elli Brown joined McArdle in charging up the leaderboard on Monday, climbing from 44th into a tie for 19th with a one-over par 73 on Monday to finish the tournament at 227. 

Sophomore Allison Stewart placed in a tie for 35th with 231, while senior Sara Sackett finished in a tie for 64th with 238.

"We had a hard time adjusting to the surface again today," Krapfl said. "But I'm still pleased with how we placed.  We're all excited for the Big 12 Championships next week and we're looking forward to getting a big crowd."

The Huskers return to action April 17-19 when they host the Big 12 Championships at the Country Club of Lincoln.
