Lincoln, Neb.?The No. 37 Nebraska women’s tennis team closed out the weekend with a win Sunday over Drake, 5-2. The win gives NU a 4-0 record and extends its home non-conference winning streak to 67 matches.
Nebraska was without senior Ewelina Skaza at the No. 1 doubles spot, but her absence did not slow down as the Huskers doubles picked up right where it left off from Friday. Sophomore Imke Reimers and senior Pamela Castillejos gave NU an early edge at No. 1 as they rolled Veronika Lesyova and Sarah Plowman, 8-1.
Senior Jennifer Cremieux kept her perfect singles record intact today with a victory in straight sets at the No. 6 spot. The senior from Canada defeated Plowman, 6-4, 6-2. The win marks Cremieux’s sixth win after not playing in her junior campaign. Castillejos, who played at the No. 5 spot improved to 4-0 on the spring as she made quick work of Omaha native Allsion Wilkie, 6-1, 6-1.
“We played hard today,” coach Scott Jacobson said. “It was a great test for next week.”
Nebraska opens up conference play as it plays host to No. 15 Texas at the WoodsTennisCenter at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11. The Huskers hope to build off of this weekend’s success going into the match with the Longhorns.
“We need to have a good week of practice,” Jacobson said. “We will have to step up and continue to improve on a daily basis.”
