Huskers Fly By Air Force

Lincoln, Neb.?The No. 37 Nebraska women’s tennis team improved to 3-0 on the year as it defeated Air Force, 7-0, Friday, at the WoodsTennisCenter.  NU improved its home non-conference winning streak to 66 matches.

“It was a night and day difference from last weekend to now,” said coach Scott Jacobson.  “We played with more energy.  It was a great day.”

The Huskers got off on a good note with senior Ewelina Skaza back in the lineup.  After sitting out last weekend with an illness, Skaza and sophomore Imke Reimers, who are ranked No. 7 regionally, played at the No. 1 spot and rolled the No. 8 regionally ranked tandem of Kat Bushney and Christine Abayan, 8-1.  At the No. 2 spot, senior Milena Schulz-Gartner and freshman Kim Hartmann clinched the coveted doubles point for the Huskers by defeating Lauren Wilson and Meghan Kiser, 8-4.

Reimers turned in a dominating performance at the No. 3 singles spot and took little time to get on a roll.  In the shortest match of the day, Reimers blanked Wilson, 6-0, 6-0, for her second straight shutout.  The victory marks the third time in her career Reimers has shut out her opponent.

“Reimers was hitting the ball cleanly in warm-ups,” Jacobson said.  “I knew she would be on fire.”

Nebraska returns to the courts Sunday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m. when it faces Drake at the WoodsTennisCenter.
