Huskers Look for Second Straight Title

The Husker bowling team will journey to Springfield, Mo., this weekend to compete in the Greater Ozark Invitational.  The invitational begins Saturday morning and concludes Sunday afternoon. This event will be just the first event for the Huskers since they captured the Minnesota State Invitational title in November.      

“We are very eager to get to Springfield,” said Coach Bill Straub. “Circumstances have kept us from competition since the second week of November, so hopefully any ?rust’ can quickly be eliminated.”

The traveling team for this weekend includes Amanda Burgoyne, Adrienne Miller, Lindsay Baker, Jamie Martin, Karla Engh and Kelle Valenzuela. 

“It is supposed to be beneficial that the top four of the team competed so well last week at the Team USA trials,” Straub said.  “Time only will be the true determiner, but I expect the Husker squad to avail themselves this weekend in a manner similar to their history.”

Senior Led Huskers to First Victory
Jamie Martin guided the Nebraska bowlers to a perfect 9-0 in their first tournament win at the Mankato State Invitational.  Martin placed third with a 225 average over nine games in the two-day competition. 

Four Huskers Compete in 2006 U.S. Amateur
Four Husker bowlers competed in the 2006 United States Bowling Congress Team USA Championships on Jan. 8-13 in Reno, Nev.  Former Team USA member Amanda Burgoyne placed eighth in the competition and was selected to the 2006 team.  Burgoyne threw a total pinfall of 10,276 in the 48 games.  Adrienne Miller finished 16th overall with a 201.69 average.  Lindsay Baker also cracked the top-24 with a 20th place finish.  Jamie Martin did not qualify for the match play rounds.
