Huskers Drop to Fifth in Arkansas

Fayetteville, Ark. - The Nebraska women's golf team dropped from second to fifth place after shooting 313 through the second round at the 16-team Lady Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., Monday.

The Huskers, who opened the tournament with a solid first round of 298 on Sunday, head to Tuesday's final 18 holes with a two-round total of 611 over the par-72, 6,013-yard layout at the Pinnacle Country Club.  NU sits five strokes behind fourth-place Iowa and 21 strokes behind the front-running tournament hosts from Arkansas. The Lady Razorbacks entered the tournament ranked No. 2 nationally.

Junior Chrissie McArdle shot 80, dropping her into a tie for 16th place with sophomore Elli Brown, who hit 78.  Coming into the second round, McArdle sat in second after firing a 71 in the first round, while Brown fell from a tie at eighth place after producing a 73 on Sunday.

Senior Sara Sackett jumped from a tie at 30th to a tie for 29th, shooting 77 both rounds. Freshman Megan Place improved nine spots from a tie for 60th to a tie for 51st after firing a 78 in the second round.

Heading into the final round, senior Stephanie Ruiz is in a tie for 54th with an 82 second-round score, while senior Jackie Beste, competing as an individual, is tied for 35th, also producing a second-round 82.

Although the Huskers are still sitting in the top half of competition, Head Coach Robin Krapfl expects better numbers in Tuesday's final round, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

"We just made big numbers today," Krapfl said.  "We had stretches of good golf but the scores we had today, we can't have to be competitive at this level. It was windy, so we had a lot of mental errors.  We just need to think a little bit better on the golf course."
