Fayetteville, Ark. - The Nebraska women's golf team sits in second place after firing a 298 through the first 18 holes at the Lady Razorback Invitational on Sunday.
The Huskers finished one stroke behind the tournament-host, No. 2/3 Arkansas, and one stroke ahead of Notre Dame.
Junior Chrissie McArdle propelled the Huskers into second place at the par-72, 6,013-yard Pinnacle Country Club after tying a career-best 71 to finish in a tie for second, heading into Monday's second round. The tournament's second 18 holes will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
The Eden Prairie, Minn., native tied her career-low set at the 2004 Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate tournament in Kiawah Island, S.C., Nov. 1.
"Chrissie really got off to a good start," Head Coach Robin Krapfl said. "It was really important for her to get off to a good start. She played solid all day. Other than two mistakes, she really played great. We needed that out of her for our team to meet our goals."
Senior Jackie Beste and sophomore Elli Brown gave the Huskers a lift by each shooting 73 to put them in a tie for seventh heading into the second round. Seniors Stephanie Ruiz and Sara Sackett both recorded 77 to place them in a tie for 30th, while freshman Megan Place sits in a tie for 60th after shooting 80.
"I was a little bit disappointed because we didn't play the par-fives well," Krapfl said. "But other than that, the team really played solid. So, if we can get that straightened out we'll be in great shape."
