Huskers Place 60 on Big 12 Honor Roll

Lincoln --- The Nebraska football team capped a strong spring with 60 players being named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, the NU Athletic Department announced Thursday.

The 60 football players represented the largest group of student-athletes from a single Husker team, and was nearly one-quarter of the Nebraska total. Overall, 274 Nebraska student-athletes across 23 sports were honored for their dedication in the classroom. Student-athletes must compile at least a 3.0 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale during the spring semester to be named to the team.

Among the 274 Huskers honored, 37 produced perfect 4.0 grade-point averages in the spring semester. Seven of the perfect GPAs came from the football team, including returning Huskers Dane Todd and Trevor Neemann. Todd has led the way for Nebraska in the classroom, as he has been named to the honor roll each of his six semesters at Nebraska and he was a first-team academic All-Big 12 selection last season.

Five former Huskers -- Rob Blomeier, Garth Glissman, Kellen Huston, Joel Jackson and Ben Zajicek -- were also perfect in the classroom in the spring, while 44 of the Huskers to earn the honor were underclassmen and will return to the field for Nebraska this fall. Huston was a second-team academic All-American as a senior in 2004 and was one of five Husker first-team academic all-district selections last year. Todd joined Huston on the squad along with Kurt Mann and Chad Sievers, a first-team academic All-American who graduated in December 2004.
