Lincoln - An impressive collection of 16 Nebraska baseball players produced 3.0 or better grade-point averages during the 2005 spring semester to earn recognition from the conference for their academic accomplishments by being named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Spring Honor Roll.
Nebraska Male Student-Athlete of the Year Daniel Bruce headlines the list of baseball players on the honor roll, sporting a perfect 4.0 GPA during the spring semester. Bruce, a senior from Omaha who also earned second-team CoSIDA Academic All-America recognition this spring, was also a major contributor in Nebraska’s run to its third College World Series in the past five years.
Bruce was far from alone in representing Coach Mike Anderson’s Big 12 champion Nebraska baseball team on the conference academic honor roll. Seniors Jeremy Becker and Phil Shirek joined Bruce on the honor roll, along with juniors Brian Duensing, Brandon Buckman, Brett Jensen and Darren Hoffart. Former Husker catcher John Grose, along with Matt Foust, Jon Klausing, Bryce Nimmo, Tim Radmacher, Al Smith, Nick Sullivan, Tyler Vaughn and Luke Wertz also earned spots on the spring honor roll.
The Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who earned a 3.0 GPA or higher during the previous semester. Overall, Nebraska had a Big 12-leading 274 student-athletes named to the spring honor roll, including 37 who produced perfect 4.0 grade-point averages during the spring semester.
During the 2004-05 academic year, a league-leading 531 NU student-athletes were recognized on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, including 65 student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs during the fall or spring semester. Nebraska also led the Big 12 with 139 academic all-conference selections during the 2004-05 campaign, including a Big 12-leading 113 first-team academic all-conference honorees.
