Huskers Held Hitless in 3-0 Loss

Oklahoma City, Okla. ? Cat Osterman tossed her fourth no-hitter of the season and extended her Big 12 Tournament scoreless innings streak to 50.2 in the seventh-ranked Longhorns 3-0 victory over the 25th-ranked Nebraska softball team on Thursday.

With Osterman in the circle, Texas (40-11) struck for three runs in the bottom of the first and the 2003 National Player of the Year and 2004 Olympic gold medalist made sure the lead would hold up. Osterman finished the game facing just one batter over the minimum, striking out 14 while walking only two.

Sophomore right-hander Ashley DeBuhr (23-18) took the loss for Nebraska (35-20), while freshman right-hander Jordan Keen made her Big 12 Tournament debut in the fourth inning. After DeBuhr surrendered three runs on four hits in the first inning, she combined with Keen to throw five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits over that stretch.

After Osterman struck out the side on only nine pitches in the top of the first, three consecutive Longhorn hits put UT up 2-0 in the bottom of the inning. Back-to-back singles put runners at first and third and Chez Sievers cleared the bases with a triple to the gap in right-center on a 1-2 pitch. Following a strikeout, Megan Willis singled to score Sievers with Texas’ third run of the inning.

The Longhorns finished with four hits in the frame, equaling DeBuhr’s two-game total in 13 innings on Wednesday.

Offensively for NU, sophomore Jamie Waldecker and junior Trisha Tannahill each drew a walk to account for the only base runners of the game.

Nebraska next faces fifth-seeded Missouri tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. MU fell to Baylor, 7-3, this morning before rebounding with a 5-1 victory over OklahomaState.
