Buoy Qualifies for NCAA Championships

College Station, Texas - Junior Amie Buoy continued a magnificent season by qualifying for next week's NCAA Championships with a fourth-place finish, and a combined final score of 510.55 on the one-meter dive at the 2005 NCAA Zone D Diving meet in College Station, Texas on Saturday.

Buoy has become the first Husker diver to qualify for the NCAA Championships since Amy Aarsen qualified for the national event on the one meter in 1990.

"I am really excited to get her into NCAAs," said NU diving coach Jeff DiNicola. "Amie had a really consistent weekend. If she can finish her dives a little better she can do really well at NCAAs."

Buoy will also be competing on the three meter at the NCAA Championships after placing fourth in the event on Friday with a score of 468.80.

Four other divers in the Big 12 Conference will join Buoy on the boards in West Lafayette, Ind., next week, including Rosie Whiting of Texas A&M who took first on Saturday with a score of 529.60.  Whiting was the only diver in the conference who finished ahead of Buoy.

Buoy will join Husker sophomore Lauren Bailey at the NCAA Championships.  Buoy will compete on the one meter on Friday, March 17 and the three meter on Friday, March 18.
