The fifth-ranked Nebraska wrestling team won the Virginia Duals for the second straight year Saturday after a pair of dual wins.
The Huskers defeated Indiana, 25-9, in the finals after a 30-12 defeat of Rider in the semifinals.
The victory over Indiana was the sixth time this season that NU held its opponent to ten or fewer points in a dual. It also was Nebraska’s second dual win over the Big Ten this season. NU has wrestled four Big Ten opponents over the last eleven days, earning a 2-1-1 record.
After being disqualified at 125 pounds, Nebraska ran off five straight wins to clinch the title. Dominick Moyer got the Huskers on the winning track with a 4-3 decision over Brian Dyer at 133 pounds. Matt Murray, David Ingalls, B.J. Wright and Jacob Klein continued the win streak to clinch the victory.
In the semifinals with the Huskers ahead only 16-12 after a loss at 174 pounds, Nebraska got bonus-point victories from Pascoe, Padden and May to clinch the win. Pascoe started the win string with a 15-7 major decision over Doug Umehauer. Padden followed with a major decision win of his own, 15-3 over Jeff Black, and May closed the dual with a win by forfeit.
Nebraska is now 13-1-1 on the season. The fourth-ranked Huskers turn to the Southeast to take on North Carolina and North Carolina State on Jan. 22, 2005.
