The Nebraska bowling team will travel to Minnesota State Univeristy in Mankato this weekend after enjoying a week off. The three-day tournament will be held in the Minnesota State student union bowling center. The triangular begins Friday night at 5 p.m. and will conclude at 9 a.m. on Sunday. NU will be facing Minnesota State for the second time this season. Last time the two teams met, Nebraska defeated the Mavericks, 2-0. Nebraska will also be competing against Vanderbilt, a first-year NCAA team.
The Huskers will be without senior All-American Shannon Pluhowsky and sophomore Amanda Burgoyne, as they are currently bowling with Team USA in the World Tenpin Cup Nov. 16-25 in Hoofddarp, Netherlands. Nebraska is faced with adversity this weekend since the the first two tournaments of the year (the Jonesboro Invitational and the Whitewater Invitational) were won by Burgoyne and Pluhowsky. Trials for the 2005 Team USA take place this December in Dallas.
Pluhowsky Wins Second Tournament
Shannon Pluhowsky took home first place overall at the Whitewater Invitational despite the team placing second behind Central Missouri State. Pluhowsky averaged a 216 in eight games, boosting her career total to 11 first-place finishes in 30 events, more than any other bowler in school history.
According to Nebraska Head Coach Bill Straub, Shannon Pluhowsky is the best female college bowler of all time. She has helped lead the Huskers to 21 tournament titles during her collegiate career including the NCAA meet last year.
"Shannon has the desire to succeed. She leads the team with her inner fortitude," Straub said.
