Huskers Take Sixth at "Give 'Em Five"

Las Cruces, N.M. - The Nebraska women’s golf team battled windy conditions to shoot a 317 and climb one spot to sixth place with a three-round score of 928 at the 18-team Price’s "Give ?Em Five" Intercollegiate on Tuesday.

After playing in near perfect conditions during 36 holes on Monday, the field of 96 golfers endured strong winds that forced scores higher across the board for the final 18 holes.

"The wind really picked up today and made it tough on all of the golfers," Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said. "We really struggled at the start of the round, but then we settled in and played some really solid golf. I was definitely encouraged by what I saw here this week. I am happy with a top-six finish because that was our goal coming into the tournament."

Arizona State claimed the team title by firing the only sub-300 team score on the day with a 299 to finish with an 893 over three rounds. The Sun Devils defeated Texas Tech by nine strokes, after the Lady Raiders managed a 310 on Tuesday to finish at 902. Texas Tech entered the final round with a two-stroke lead over the Sun Devils after rounds of 298 and 294 on Monday. Baylor took third with a 904, while the hosts from New Mexico State finished fourth at 918 and Kansas rounded out the top-five with a 921.
