Lincoln, Neb. ? The Nebraska rifle team returned to the range Saturday and picked up a victory over Air Force with a 4,605-4,565 win. The Huskers again relied on a strong performance in air rifle to carry them to victory, outshooting the Falcons 2,319-2,291 in the event. Nebraska also took the smallbore crown, 2,286-2,274.
Junior Misty Chanek and freshman Kristen Weiss turned in the top performances for the Huskers in the smallbore team competition, each recording a 577. Sophomore Kristina Fehlings led the way for the squad in the air rifle team competition, shooting a 592.
Fehlings finished atop the overall standing in both smallbore and air rifle, recording an overall 686 and 687 respectively. She also recorded the top shoot in the smallbore finals, scoring a 98.
Chanek led the way in the air rifle finals recording a 99 to propel her into second in the overall air rifle standings.
The Husker newcomers performed well in their second collegiate competition, with freshman Kim Chrostowski finishing second overall in smallbore and fourth in air rifle. Freshman Kristen Weiss finished third overall in air rifle.
Nebraska returns to action on Nov. 6, when the Huskers battle TCU in a home match at the NU Rifle Range.
Note: Head Coach Launi Meili gave birth to her first child Monday. Bryce Owen Geddes weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces and was 21 inches long.
