Rogers, Ark. - The Nebraska women's golf team rebounded from a rough opening round on Sunday to fire a 305 in Monday's second round to climb four spots to ninth among the 19 teams at the Lady Razorback Invitational.
Redshirt freshman Allison Stewart continued her solid play by putting together a 77 in the second round, after leading the Huskers with a 78 on Sunday. The Vermillion, S.D., native's 155 through two rounds put her into a tie for 20th place heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes in the three-day tournament.
Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said the Huskers and Stewart played well on Monday.
"We needed to just come out and simplify things today and get back to basics," Krapfl said. "We hit fairways and greens and played smart golf. Allison played very well for the second day in a row, and Merynn (Ito) played like we expect her to play day-in and day-out. We made a move up the leaderboard today, and we'll try to climb some more tomorrow."
While Stewart maintained her strong play, senior Merynn Ito got back on track Monday by shooting a team-low two-over-par 74 in the second round. Ito's effort came after struggling with an 85 in the opening round. Ito's effort vaulted her up the individual standings into a tie for 39th.
Sophomore Chrissie McArdle also produced a strong round with a four-over-par 76 on the 6,105-yard layout at the Pinnacle Country Club. McArdle climbed into a tie for 31st heading into the final round.
True freshman Elli Brown bounced back from an 87 on Sunday to shoot a 78 on Monday, giving the Huskers' their fourth score. Brown sits in a tie for 74th among the 100 players in the tournament, while unior Chelsea Gehring is in a tie for 64th place after battling her way to an 85 on Monday.
Iowa State remained in first place through two rounds after shooting 304 on Monday to go along with its opening-round 297 for a two-round total of 601. The Cyclones are 10 strokes ahead of Missouri (611) and 12 shots in front of the hosts from Arkansas (613).
The Lady Razorback Invitational concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m.
