Rogers, Ark. - The Nebraska women's golf team opened with a 323 to sit in 13th place after 18 holes at the Lady Razorback Invitational at the Pinnacle Country Club on Sunday.
Nebraska finds itself 26 strokes behind the first-round leaders from Iowa State, which shot a nine-over-par 297 on the 6,015-yard, par-72 layout. The Cyclones are six shots ahead of the hosts from Arkansas, which managed a 303 to sit in second place in the 19-team field.
Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said the Huskers struggled throughout the day.
"We didn't have a good day," Krapfl said. "We came out flat and really didn't play well. Our short game was actually really good, which saved us from an even rougher first round. Hopefully we'll come out and play better tomorrow."
Allison Stewart put together Nebraska's top round of the day by firing a six-over-par 78 to sit in a tie for 26th place after the opening round. Chelsea Gehring added a 79, which was good for a tie for 43rd, while Chrissie McArdle found herself in a tie for 58th after contributing an 81.
Senior captain Merynn Ito battled her way to a 13-over-par 85, while true freshman Elli Brown managed an 87.
The Huskers will play the second round of the 54-hole tournament on Monday, before concluding the invitational with 18 holes on Tuesday.
