Lincoln ? The Nebraska men’s tennis team returned to the courts on Sunday for the third and final day of the Nebraska Invitational at the Varsity Tennis Courts. The Huskers continued their success on both the singles and doubles courts.
“I thought this was a great start to the fall season for our guys,” said Coach Kerry McDermott. “We played well and really started to pick up some confidence. We won a vast majority of our singles matches and probably had the most wins of any team here, so it was a good way to get the ball rolling.
"There is a good chemistry on the team right now and guys are starting to step up their play a bit. Now we need to continue that the rest of the fall and into the spring.”
In singles,
Nebraska faced the Big Ten’s Minnesota Gophers early in the day. Nebraska split three out of six points. Jerry Posch remained undefeated with a strong victory over former Husker D.J. Geatz in three sets at the No.1 slot.
On the doubles court, the Huskers played another Big Ten school, Iowa winning two out of three matches from Iowa. Posch finished the weekend strong with a victory at the No.1 doubles slot with Jose Rivera when they defeated Brett Taylor and Kyle Markham. Marcus Karner and James Clow followed by beating the Hawkeyes J.P. Ritchie and Scott Elwell, 8-5.
In the final scheduled match of the day, Nebraska and Wisconsin agreed not to play.
This concluded a strong start of the fall season for the Huskers. They will return to the courts Friday, Oct. 1, for the All-American Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn.
