Davis Narrowly Misses Advancing

Sacramento, Calif. - Former Husker David Davis finished seventh in his heat and 26th overall in the qualifying round of the 110-meter hurdles at U.S. Olympic Trials in Sacramento, Calif.

Davis crossed the tape in 13.97 seconds. He finished just two places and .02 seconds shy of qualifying for the quarterfinals in the event. Davis finished third in the 110-meter hurdles as the 2003 Big 12 Outdoor Championships and took home the gold in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2003 Big 12 Indoor Championships.

Sunday marks the final day of the U.S. Olympic Trials and no athletes with ties to the Nebraska track and field program are scheduled to compete. Despite a fourth-place performance by senior-to-be Becky Breisch in the women's discus and a first-place finish by former Husker Ann Gaffigan in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, no current or former NU athletes at the U.S. Trials advanced to the Olympic Games. Gaffigan set a new American Record in her race, but the 3,000-meter steeplechase is not an event in this year's Olympics.

Husker hurdler Priscilla Lopes (Canada) and middle distance runner Nenad Loncar (Yugoslavia) along with former Huskers Ineta Radevica (Latvia) have all qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
