The Nebraska women’s tennis team suffered a tough 4-3 loss to Kansas Saturday afternoon at the Cather Pound Courts. The match came down to the contest at No. 5 singles, where senior Anna Oehme won the first set but was eventually defeated by the Jayhawks’ Brittany Brown, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
With the loss, the Huskers fell to 13-7 overall and 3-5 in the Big 12 Conference, while Kansas improved to 6-12 overall and 4-4 in the league.
"It was a disheartening loss," NU Coach Scott Jacobson said. "We felt like we just let it slip away. I have to give Kansas credit ? they came to play today. We will find out a lot more about the character of this team tomorrow. We will have to bounce back against Colorado."
All three of Nebraska’s points came in singles play. Junior Gitte Ostermann defeated Courtney Steinbock, 6-2, 6-2, at No.1 singles. Senior Leslie Harvey was victorious in the No. 3 spot, beating Christine Skoda, 6-2, 6-3, and Katie Garcia defeated Luiza Loureiro at No. 6 singles, 7-6, 7-5.
The Huskers continue Big 12 action Sunday at 10 a.m. when they face Colorado at the Cather Pound Courts. The match is the final home contest of the season. NU will honor seniors Rose Ketmayura, Leslie Harvey, Rebecca Harvey and Anna Oehme prior to the match.
