The Nebraska women’s tennis team picked up its second Big 12 Conference victory Saturday with a 7-0 win over Kansas State at Woods Tennis Center. The Huskers, who won every singles match and dropped just one doubles contest, improved to 12-6 overall and 2-4 in the league.
The win was also the Huskers’ second shutout of a conference team, as they defeated Iowa State 7-0 March 26. With five regular-season matches remaining, Nebraska has already tied its 2003 win total. KSU fell to 5-11 on the year.
After winning two of the three doubles matches to earn the point, NU picked up easy singles wins at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 spots, where senior Leslie Harvey, senior Rose Ketmayura and junior Katie Garcia all won in straight sets.
In the top spot, junior Gitte Ostermann came from behind to win a super tiebreaker, defeating KSU’s Maria Rosenberg, 5-7, 6-3 (10-5). At No. 2 singles, sophomore Milena Schulz-Gartner beat Jessica Simosa, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 (4), and in the No. 5 spot, senior Anna Oehme defeated Judith Diaz, 7-6 (3), 7-5.
The Huskers continue a four-match homestand against league teams Sunday when they take on Texas Tech at 10 a.m. at Woods Tennis Center.
