Boerne, Texas ?The Nebraska women's golf team dropped to 14th place in the final round of the Baylor-Tapatio Springs Shootout Sunday afternoon. The Huskers sat in 11th place entering Sunday's final round, but shot a score of 333 to finish the tournament with a three-round total of 967.
After showing improvement on Saturday, the Huskers were unable to keep the momentum going during the final round.
"They are just trying too hard," Head Coach Robin Krapfl said. "The harder they try, the more pressure they put on themselves, and the worse they play."
Sophomore Sara Sackett (Cambridge, Neb.) shot seven-over par 79 in the third round for the team's low round of the day. Senior Stephanie Schaefer (Columbus, Neb.) finished tied for 51st place with a three-round tally of 241 (80-77-84). Three Huskers ended the tournament tied for 54th place, including Chrissie McArdle (Eden Prairie, Minn.), Jackie Beste (Sauk Centre, Minn.) and Ito, as all three compiled a final score of 241.
Junior Merynn Ito (Aiea, Hawaii) and Schaefer both fired a five-over par 77s in the second round on Saturday for the team's best rounds of the weekend.
The Huskers return to action on Saturday-Sunday, March 27-28, at the Mountainview Collegiate, in Tucson, Ariz. The tournament will commence at 10 a.m. (CST)
