Columbus, Ohio -- The No. 71 Nebraska women’s tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to Ohio State Friday afternoon at the Jesse Owens Recreation Center in Columbus, Ohio. Nebraska, which falls to 6-2 on the season, will take on Yale Saturday morning at 9 a.m. in Columbus. Meanwhile, Ohio State improved to 2-2 in 2004.
The Huskers fell behind early when Ohio State swept the doubles matches to secure the doubles point. Nebraska struggled in singles play as well. The Buckeyes clinched the victory with wins at the Nos. 3, 1, and 4 spots before NU sophomore Milena Schulz-Gartner (4-4) pulled out a victory at No. 2 singles. Schulz-Gartner defeated Jackie Leskovar, 4-6, 6-4 (7).
In the second-most competitive match of the day, NU sophomore Pamela Castillejos (6-2) fell to OSU’s Kristin Messmer, 7-5, 6-3. At No. 3 singles, Nebraska senior Leslie Harvey (7-1) suffered her first loss of the season, falling to Erica Fisk, 6-1, 6-2.
