Lincoln ? A total of 15 Husker baseball players were honored this week with selection to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll on Wednesday. The Husker baseball players were among 286 Nebraska student-athletes who were recognized for their success in the classroom.
The honorees are led by junior outfielder Daniel Bruce, who completed the fall semester with a 4.0 GPA in English. The Omaha native is a CoSIDA Academic All-America candidate and carries a 3.872 cumulative grade-point average. Other upperclassmen honored include senior captains John Grose, Justin Pekarek and Jake Mullinax and fellow senior Mike Sillman and former pitcher Jamie Rodrigue, who is completing his degree in physical education. Four true freshmean were also among the honorees, including catcher Johnny Bowden, pitchers Matt Foust and Jon Klausing and infielder Al Smith.
The Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who earned a 3.0 GPA or higher during the previous semester. Overall, Nebraska had 286 student-athletes named to the fall honor roll, including 26 who produced perfect 4.0 grade-point averages during the fall semester.
The Huskers open the 2004 season next Friday, Feb. 20, when they travel to New Mexico for the Ultimate Dugout Baseball Fiesta against Northwestern. Nebraska will also face the host Lobos and Kent State that weekend.
