Lincoln ? The No. 68 Nebraska women’s tennis team picked up its third win in three days Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 win over Illinois-Chicago at Woods Tennis Center. The victory was the Huskers’ first of the season over a perennial NCAA Tournament qualifier.
"This is a very big win for us," NU Coach Scott Jacobson said. "Illinois-Chicago has been to several NCAA Tournaments and has won their conference several times. We saved our best tennis of the weekend for our best opponent.
The Huskers (3-0), who also defeated Colorado State and Montana State during the past three days, won four of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles contest to take the doubles point.
Senior Leslie Harvey improved to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Iris Jaklin at No. 2 singles. Senior Anna Oehme also improved to 3-0, defeating A. Giannoulopoulou at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 7-6. NU’s other singles winners were No. 4 Rose Ketmayura, who best Corey Steven 6-4, 3-6 (10-5), and sophomore Pamela Castillejos, who defeated Melanie Humphrey, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5 singles.
The Huskers continue their seven-match homestand Feb. 6 when they take on Wichita State at 4 p.m. at Woods Tennis Center.
