Salt Lake City -- The Huskers were defeated by Washington, 4-2, on Sunday morning in their last game of the Utah Tournament Sunday in Salt Lake City.
After giving up two singles and a pop-up to centerfield to start the sixth inning, Nebraska's starter Ashely DeBuhr was relieved in by senior pitcher Peaches James. Washington's first batter, Aimee Minor, then ended the contest with a three-run homer, as the game was ended due to time constraints.
The game was tied at one until the fifth inning when Trisha Tannahill hit an RBI single to the left side, putting the Huskers ahead, 2-1.
Nebraska's first run was scored by senior Nicole Trimboli after junior Sheena Lawrick hit a double to right field in the first inning. Washington answered the Huskers run in the second with a solo home run by Kristen Rivera and the game was deadlocked until Tannahill's RBI single.
Washington starter Tia Bollinger threw a complete game for six innings with nine strikeouts to take the win. DeBuhr pitched 5.1 innings for Nebraska, taking the loss and bringing NU's fall record to 6-4 overall.
Nebraska will travel to Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., next weekend, Sept. 27-28, to participate in the Augustana Tournament.
