Lincoln, Neb. ---- The Big 12 conference announced 246 student-athletes who were named to the 2002 Women's and Men's Track and Field Academic All-Big 12 Teams. Nebraska has a total of 33 student-athletes among the prestigious list. Four Husker women were named to the list for the fourth time, including multi-event athlete Katherine Livesey, distance runner Jenna Lucas, sprints runner Lesley Owusu and hammer throw athlete Melissa Price. Senior middle distance runner Liz Vacek has been selected for the fifth consecutive year.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher either cumulative or from the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her/his team's scheduled contests.
The first-team Academic All-Big 12 list consists of students who have maintained a 3.2 or better grade-point-average. Nebraska has 16 women and 15 men who are among this group. The second team Academic All-Big 12 athletes are students who have maintained a 3.0 to 3.19 grade-point-average. Two Husker men were named to the second team.
