Lincoln -- 58th-ranked women's tennis team defeated 68th-ranked Iowa State, Sunday afternoon at the Woods Tennis Center, 5-2 to break a four-match conference-losing streak. The Huskers improve to 12-5 overall and 2-5 in conference play. Iowa State drops to 5-7 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
In singles action, Nebraska won five of the six matches. No. 1 Katarina Balan defeated Noortje Cornelissen, 6-1, 6-2. No. 2 Leslie Harvey lost to Sabrina Evers, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3. No. 3 Amy Frisch defeated Edna Vazques, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. No. 4 Anna Oehme defeated Kristin Gyaki, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. No. 6 Katie Garcia won her first match of her career defeating Courtney Leese, 6-3, 6-7, 6-0.
In doubles action, Iowa State won all three matches to take the doubles point. At No.1 spot Balan and L. Harvey lost to Evers and Cornelissen, 8-3. No. 2 Frisch and R. Harvey lost to Gyaki and Goedjen, 8-4. No. 3 Stacey Tomkiewicz and Oehme lost to Leese and Vazquez, 8-6.
Nebraska will be in action next Friday, April 6, 2002 when the travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma to take of 44th-ranked Oklahoma State at 10 a.m.
