Fischer and Cosgrove Earn All-American Honors to Lead Nebraska

Long Island, N.Y. - Sophomore All-American Elvira Fischer earned her second All-American honor of her career after placing eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke Friday night.

A sophomore from Vienna, Austria Fischer finished eighth in a time of 1:02.04 giving her, her second All-American award of her career. Freshman Carmen Cosgrove earned her first All-American award of her career after finishing 16th in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 55.33.

Senior All-American Beth Karaica finished 44th in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 56.97. Karaica also helped Nebraska's 200-yard medley relay team to a 20th place showing in a time of 1:45.32. Freshman Rebecca Wolfe finished 32nd in the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:25.77. Teammate, sophomore Keri Hehn added a 24th place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:03.68.

After Friday's finals, Auburn leads the team competition with 265 points. Defending Champion Georgia holds the No. 2 spot with 261, while Stanford ranks third with 254.5. After not scoring in day one Nebraska is currently tied with Cincinnati in 29th place with 12 points.

The 2001 NCAA Championships continue tomorrow with prelims beginning at 11 a.m. and finals starting at 7 p.m.
