Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska women's tennis team swept Wichita State 7-0 Saturday morning at Woods Tennis Center improving their record to 2-0 in the 2001 season.
The Huskers rolled through singles matches taking 6-0 lead over Wichita State, and then continued to dominate in doubles winning all three matches.
"Leslie (Harvey) really stood out this whole weekend," Head Coach Scott Jacobson said. "but I think the highlight of this whole weekend was our doubles play."
In singles play Ndali Ijomah (Seattle, Wash.) defeated Annellie van den Heever 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. At the No. 2 spot, Katarina Balan (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) defeated Amanda Cervantes 6-4, 6-4. Playing at the No. 3 spot Leslie Harvey (San Diego, Calif.) defeated former Husker Kelli Clark, 6-1, 6-2. Amy Frisch (Crescent, Ky.) beat Sharon Colledge 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot. Rebecca Harvey (San Diego, Calif.) defeated Sarah Beth Dangos 6-0, 6-1, and at the No. 6 spot, Rose Ketmayura defeated Martina Stojkic 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles action Balan teamed up with Ketmayura and defeated van den Heever 8-6 at the No. 1 spot. At the No. 2 spot, Elissa Kinard (Charleston, S.C.) and L. Harvey defeated Stojkic and Colledge 8-3, and at No. 3 Frisch and Stacey Tomkiewicz defeated Clark and Cherise Stein 8-5.
The Huskers' next match will be Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 2:30 p.m. against Creighton at Woods Tennis Center.
