Cambridge, Mass. -- On Saturday, the Nebraksa men's tennis team continued its success wining five singles matches and sending two Huskers to the championship match at the Harvard Invitational in Cambridge, Mass.
Both Adnan Hadzialic and Fungai Tongoona made it past the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds to reach the championship game. Hadzialic defeated Rutgers' Akshay Jagdale in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 7-6, and went on to beat teammate Lance Mills, a junior, in the semifinals, 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the finals in the Flight "A" bracket.
In the Flight "B" bracket, Tongoona surpassed two seeded players to advance to the finals. In the quarterfinals, he defeated No. 4 seed Scott Tolep, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6, and No. 2 seed Mike Rich, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6.
Before being ousted by teammate Hadzialic, junior Lance Mills defeated William Lee of Harvard in two sets, 6-2, 6-2, and senior Kai Rieke was beat by eventual champion Oliver Choo also of Harvard in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-2.
In Flight "B," senior Ryan Haith and freshman Patrick Kennedy were defeated by Harvard's George Turner, 6-3, 6-1, and No. 3 seed Dalibor Snyder, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.
After a first round loss, Nebraska's freshman Jose Rivera went on to win the Flight "B" conselation bracket. He defeated Harvard's Chris Chiou and St. John's C. Carere, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 and 6-4, 6-1. Rivera then won by default over Alabama's Christian Broderson.
The Huskers' freshmen duo of Kyle True and Rivera were beaten out by Alabama's Perez/Pallares in the quarterfinal round, 8-1.
