Lincoln-The 63rd ranked Nebraska men's tennis team notched their first home win of the season by beating in-state rival Creighton University 6-1 Sunday at the Woods Tennis Center. With the victory, Nebraska evens out their record at 2-2. Nebraska's Jorge Sanchel out lasted Creighton's Haakon Nygaurd in a marathon match, eventually winning 5-7, 7-6, 7-6. NU coach Kerry McDermott said that the big difference today was that the team played more aggressively. "We were a lot more aggressive today then we were against Texas A&M, and that worked to our favor."
Freshman Fungai Tongoona won his first match of the season after being held out of action due to injuries. According to McDermott, "We are going to play Fungai and see how he feels. We don't want to red-shirt him if we don't have to."
Nebraska swept Crieghton in doubles action. Rieke and Haith defeated Nygaurd and Muller 8-2, Wiese and Hadzialic beat Floth and Rainer 8-3, and Sanchez and Kelsey Moran defeated Roth and Chiu 8-5.
Nebraska will return to action Friday, Feb. 18, when the Huskers travel to Terra Haute, Indiana to face off with Illinois State beginning at 7:30 p.m.
