Lincoln--The No. 65 Nebraska women's tennis team continued its winning ways with a 9-0 win over Colorado State today at the Woods Tennis Center. The win was NU's eighth in a row and third straight 9-0 victory.
In singles action, junior Sandra Noetzel won her eighth straight match with a win over Alana Colglazier, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 2, freshman Katarina Balan also won her eighth straight match at No. 2 singles, with a 6-4, 6-3, victory over Heidi Auvinen. At No. 3, sophomore Ndali Ijomah, who also has won eight in a row, defeated Amanda Bartz, 6-4, 7-6. Junior Gina Pelazini battle in her match at No. 4, dropping the first set 4-6, but bounced back to win the next two, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 5, sophomore Dancia Hardy defeated Catherine Sullivan, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2). Freshman Amy Frisch closed out singles winning her 11th match in a row, beating Allison Forrest, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of Noetzel and Ijomah also won thier 11th straight match, dominating Colglazier and Lisle, 8-0. At No. 2, the duo of Pelazini and Frisch defeated Bartz and Sullivan, 8-4. At No. 3, Hardy and Balan picked up their seventh consecutive doubles victory with a win over Auvinen and Forrest, 8-6.
Nebraska Head Coach Scott Jacobson thinks the play of his doubles team has been key to his team's recent success.
"I think our doubles' teams are getting stronger," Jacobson said. "We have not switched our doubles' combinations all year. All three of our doubles' teams are communicating really well right now."
The Huskers returns to action next Saturday, April 3, when they travel to Lawerence, Kan., to take on the No. 32 Kansas Jayhawks at 11 a.m.
