Huskers Cage Tigers in 8-1 Win

Lincoln--The No. 69 Nebraska women's tennis team dominated its match today against Missouri, winning 8-1. The Huskers picked up their second conference victory of the year and improved their overall record to 9-3.

In singles, Sandra Noetzel won her match at No. 1 singles over Biljana Pawlowa 6-2, 6-1. At No. 2, freshman Katarina Balan picked up her team-high ninth singles vicory beating Andrea Friedman 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Ndali Ijomah also improved to 9-3 on the year with her win over Jelena Kocergin 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 singles. At No. 4, junior Gina Pelazini beat Joni Jordan 6-3, 6-4. At sixth singles, freshman Amy Frisch also improved to 9-3 on the year with a win over Julie Thomas, winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles, the duo of Noetzel and Ijomah won their sixth straight at No. 1, beating Paulova and Thompson 8-3. At No. 2, Frisch and Pelazini trailed 7-6 but then won the last three points of the match to beat Kocergin and Thomas 9-7. At No. 3, Balan and Hardy defeated Friedman and Jordan 8-5.

NU Head Coach Scott Jacobson was pleased with his team's effort today.

"We played really hard today," Jacobson said. "Missouri is much improved from last year, so this was a good win for us. One of the highlights of the day was the play of our No. 1 (Noetzel) and No. 3 (Ijomah) singles players. In addition, Amy Frisch just never quits. She is playing great right now"

The Huskers return to action tomorrow when they play host to Gustavus Adolphus at 10 a.m. and Northern Iowa at 3 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Woods Tennis Center.
