Huskers Fall 9-0 to the Hawkeyes

Iowa City, Iowa--The No. 66 Nebraska women's tennis team fell to 1-1 on the year with a 9-0 loss to Iowa Saturday morning in Iowa City, Iowa. With the win, Iowa, ranked 61st nationally, improved to 3-0 on the season.

Iowa jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the match by sweeping the doubles events. Erin Wolverton and Shera Wiegler took care of Sandra Noetzel and Ndali Ijomah at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. The No. 2 doubles team of Natalya Dawaf and Emily Bampton was also victorious, defeating Amy Frisch and Gina Pelazini, 8-2. Toni Neykova and Erica Johnson completed the doubles sweep at No. 3

The Hawkeyes also won all six singles matches without dropping a set. Neykova continued to stay hot with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Noetzel. Dawaf, Wigler, Bampton, Johnson and Wolverton all claimed singles victories.

The Huskers return to action Friday, Feb.12 at 5 p.m. in their home opener against Drake at the Woods Tennis Center.
