Huskers Improve to 6-2 with Win Over Texas Tech

Lubbock, Texas--The No. 66 Nebraska women's tennis team improved to 6-2 (1-1 Big 12) on the year beating Texas Tech 8-1 today in Lubbock, Texas. The Huskers swept through singles picking up six victories and won 2 of 3 doubles matches.

In singles, junior Sandra Noetzel, ranked 67th nationally, defeated Zana Zlebnik 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. At No. 2, freshman Katarina Balan picked up her sixth victory of the spring beating Alenka Ovin 6-4, 6-4. Sophomore Ndali Ijomah also picked up her sixth victory of the year with a win over Amanda Earhart 6-4, 0-6, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. At No. 4, junior Gina Pelazini beat Ana Serrot 6-3, 6-4. While at No. 5, Danica Hardy defeated Misty Meyer 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Amy Frisch closed out singles with a tough victory over Noel Ruiz winning 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

In doubles, the duo of Noetzel and Ijomah beat Ovin/Serrot 8-3, at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2, Pelazini and Frisch dropped their match by default to Earhart and Zlebnik, 1-0. At No. 3, Balan and Hardy picked up their sixth doubles victory of the year defeating Meyer and Ghislaine Hernandez.

NU faces a tough test tommorow when they travel to Austin, Texas to take on the sixth ranked Texas Longhorns at 1 p.m.
