Huskers Post 9-0 Victory Over Rival Creighton

Lincoln--The Nebraska women's tennis team improved to 5-2 (0-1 Big 12) on the year with a 9-0 victory over the Creighton Lady Jays Wednesday at the Woods Tennis Center. The Huskers did not drop a set in the dual.

In singles, junior Sandra Noetzel, ranked No. 67 in the latest ITA rankings, defeated Meggan Green 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2, freshman Katarina Balan dominated her match with Melissa Rosenthal, winning 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3, sophomore Ndali Ijomah improved to 5-2 on the year with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Lauren Woodward. Junior Gina Pelazini breezed through her match, defeating Jenny Daker 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4 singles. The dominance continued at No. 5 singles with sophomore Danica Hardy picking up a win over Jeanne Daker 6-1, 6-1. At No. 6, freshman Amy Frisch closed out singles, beating Jeanne Raynor 7-5, 6-2.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of Noetzel and Ijomah ended their five-match losing streak, beating Green and Rosenthal 8-6. At No. 2, Frisch and Pelazini defeated Woodward and Raynor 8-0 and at No. 3 doubles Balan and Hardy picked up their fifth doubles victory of the year, beating Jenny Daker and Jeanne Daker 8-1.

Nebraska Head Coach Scott Jacobson said he was impressed today by the play of his doubles teams.

"We made great strides in doubles today," Jacobson said. "We are really starting to be more active out there. It was also good to see Sandra and Ndali get back on track today."

The Huskers return to action this Saturday Feb. 27, at 10 a.m, when they travel to the Lone Star state to take on Texas Tech.
