Huskers Post 6-3 Victory over Wyoming

Lincoln--The Nebraska women's tennis team improved to 3-1 on the year with a 6-3 victory over Wyoming Sunday morning at the Woods Tennis Center.

The Huskers got of to a quick start, clinching a team victory by going 5-1 in singles for NU's second straight win. No. 1 junior Sandra Noetzel, ranked 57th nationally, improved to 3-1 on the year by defeating Sarah Kay 6-4, 6-3. At No. 2, freshman Katarina Balan defeated Natalie Morozova 6-4, 6-4. Sophomore Ndali Ijomah won her match over Melanie Roberts 7-6, 6-4, at third singles. At No. 4, junior Gina Pelazini moved to 2-2 on the year by defeating Lisa Pruett 7-6, 6-4. Freshman Amy Frisch also improved to 2-2 on the season with a win over Amanda Roberts, 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles, Nebraska picked up a win with sophomore Danica Hardy and Balan teaming up to defeat Amanda Roberts and Lindsay McPhail, 8-3.

"The highlight of the day was the play of Gina Pelazini," Nebraska Head Coach Scott Jacobson said. "She keeps playing with more and more confidence and that is taking her to a higher level."

The Huskers return to action next Friday, Feb. 19, when the Huskers take on Sam Houston State in College Station, Texas, at 1:30 p.m.
