Jamie Rogers tied the Nebraska school record of 65 for the second time in his career Tuesday to help the Nebraska men's golf team to its first victory of the fall at the Ram Collegiate.
Rogers earned a tie for first place with UTEP's Ralph Gemoets, firing rounds of 67, 72 and 65 to finish with a six-under-par 204. The final round of 65 ties Nebraska's school record, which is co-held by Knox Jones and Rogers. Rogers shot a 65 last spring at the NCAA Central Regional. Rogers' individual win marks the second time this fall a Husker has medaled. Steve Friesen finished first at the Falcon-Cross Creek Invitational in mid-September.
Friesen also finished in the Top 5, carding a three-under-par 207 (71-68-68). Rogers and Friesen sparked Nebraska to a three-under-par 837 and a four-stroke victory over Oklahoma. As a team, the Huskers fired rounds of 278, 283 and a season-best 276 to outdistance the Sooners. The Huskers were tied with Oklahoma at 561 after 36 holes. Fresno State finished third (845).
Scott Gutschewski finished just out of the top 10 in a tie for 11th at one-over-par 211 (71-69-71). Josh Madden was 37th with a 218 (69-77-72), and Judd Brewer finished 70th with a 227 (75-74-78).
Nebraska's next competition is the Duke Golf Classic, Oct. 18-19, in Durham, N.C.
