Megan Skinner lended her coaching talents to the Huskers for 10 season, from 1995-2004. She helped guide Nebraska to new heights, including three Big 12 regular season crowns and five Big 12 Tournament championships. Skinner was part of NU's two best seasons in the programs history (1996 and 1999) as the Huskers appeared in the Elite Eight both years.
Along with her on-field coaching duties, Skinner assisted with Nebraska’s training and conditioning programs and helped coordinate the Huskers’ individual skill development program. Skinner directed the Huskers’ community involvement projects and coordinated Nebraska’s summer soccer camps and clinics.
An excellent judge of talent and ability, Skinner also was instrumental in helping the Huskers put together a string of outstanding recruiting classes. A native of Leavenworth, Kan., Skinner’s ties to the state of Kansas helped the Huskers land one of the most talented high school players in Kansas City metro history, Kori Saunders, in 1999. Skinner also has helped the Huskers recruit top players from California, Colorado, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska during her tenure.
Skinner was integral in recruiting one of Nebraska’s best incoming classes in school history in 2003. Soccer America named Nebraska’s incoming class the No. 8 recruiting class in the country for 2003. She was again intregral in recruiting the 2004 class, which Soccer America dubbed as the sixth-best class in the nation.
Skinner holds a United States Soccer Federation “A” coaching license and has been an Olympic Development Program Region II staff coach.
In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Skinner was chosen as the director of coaching development and director of coaching for the girls program for the Capital Soccer Association, a premier soccer club in Lincoln, Neb., in the summer of 2002.
Before joining Nebraska coach John Walker’s staff for the 1995 season, Skinner was a four-year starter at Creighton University in Omaha. She was a Bluejay captain and the team’s MVP in 1994. Skinner received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Creighton in 1995, before earning her master’s degree in education from Nebraska in 1997.
Along with her collegiate experience, Skinner played for the Under-23 Region II Olympic Development team in 1993 and 1994, and was a member of the Region II Olympic Development Under-18, Under-16 and Under-14 teams from 1986 to 1991. She was also a USYSA Under-16 All-American.
Along with her coaching responsibilities on and off the field, Skinner was also a competitive marathon runner and triathlete. She ran the Boston Marathon in May of 2000 after qualifying with a 29th-place finish in 3:35:35 in the 26.2-mile Lincoln Marathon in 1999.
Skinner married Nebraska assistant volleyball coach Craig Skinner on May 18, 2002, and the couple had their first child, Sophie Jane, in November of 2002.
