Athan Katsantonis is in his second year at Nebraska and first as recruiting coordinator. He assists the Husker coaching staff in advanced scouting, including opponent and team self-scouting, as well as game preparation. Katsantonis oversees the recruiting landscape for the Huskers, assisting with monitoring the NCAA transfer portal, recruiting research, implementing, and managing NU’s recruiting database and constructing innovative recruiting presentations.
Katsantonis helped Nebraska land the 15th nationally ranked recruiting class by ESPN in 2021 which is considered the best class in program history. The group is headlined by five-star recruit Bryce McGowens, as well as top-100 recruit Wilhelm Breidenbach and junior college All-American Keisei Tominaga. Nebraska also added three high-profile transfers in Keon Edwards, CJ Wilcher and Alonzo Verge.
Before coming to Nebraska, Katsantonis spent four years as a student manager and two years as the head manager for Hall of Fame Coach Jim Boeheim. Katsantonis filled a number of roles for the program, including hiring and managing over 30 student managers, assisting the coaching staff with player development, game situational workouts and scouting reports, analyzing film, preparing reports for reviewing biometric data, and spearheaded advanced statistical reports for the players and coaching staff. Katsantonis was also given the title of assistant director of operations his senior year, as he worked closely with the director of operations in overseeing and assisting in the daily operations of the program.
Syracuse made the post-season every year during Katsantonis’s tenure, including NCAA Tournament appearances in 2018 and 2019. Katsantonis worked closely with assistant coach, Gerry McNamara, helping produce four NBA players, including Elijah Hughes (Utah Jazz), O’Shae Brissett (Indiana Pacers), Tyler Lydon (Utah Jazz), and Tyus Battle (Minnesota Timberwolves).
In addition to his duties with the Syracuse program, Katsantonis served as the head coach of the men’s club program at Syracuse, organizing games and practices, as well as organizing tryouts and team selection process.
Katsantonis graduated with a degree in human development and family science from Syracuse in May of 2020.
