Alina Weinstein joins the Huskers in her first season as the volunteer coach for the 2014 season. Before joining the staff, Weinstein competed for the Illinois, Fighting Illini from 2009 to 2013 where she earned her degree in Communications and minored in Business.
While competing at Illinois, Weinstein became the first ever Illini to advance to the NCAA Individual Event Finals on floor, earning First-Team All-America status. In her senior season alone, she was the 2013 South Central Regional Gymnast of the year as well as a Honda Award finalist, which honors the top four gymnasts in the country. In addition, she was awarded the Big Ten Medal of Honor signifying the top Senior Student Athlete at Illinois. Additionally, she broke three records on the vault (10.0), floor (9.975), and all-around (39.625). Weinstein became only the second Illini to score a perfect 10.00 in school history.
Upon completion of her eligibility at Illinois, Weinstein competed at the Professional Gymnastics Challenge and led team USA to the win.
Weinstein is a native of Plainsboro, New Jersey and was coached under the direction of Valdi Kolasa and Magdalena During at Arena Gymnastics.
