2009-10 Outlook
Curtis Salazar is projected to be a starter for the second straight year at 141 pounds. The junior gained valuable experience against some of the best competition in the nation last season and can use that to his advantage in 2009-10.
2008-09
Big 12 Championships
Salazar went 0-2 at 141 pounds in his first appearance at the Big 12 Championships. He took Oklahoma's Seth Vernon to overtime before losing a 7-5 decision, and was defeated 5-3 by No. 15 Jamal Parks of Oklahoma State.
Regular Season
In his first season as a full-time starter, Salazar went 12-18 overall and 4-12 in duals. He opened the year with a 5-0 record to place first at the Daktronics Open on Nov. 8, including a victory by pin in the final. Salazar placed fourth in the elite division at the Kaufman-Brand Open on Nov. 22, before picking up two bonus-point dual wins on Nov. 28. Salazar pinned Augustana's Jay Sherer in 4:43 and posted a 20-5 technical fall over Oregon State's Ryan Harold.
Salazar went 2-13 the rest of the regular season, but faced 10 ranked foes, including four ranked in the top seven. He finished with three pins, a technical fall and major decision.
2007-08
Regular Season
Salazar was one of four wrestlers to contend for the starting position at 141 during the 2007-08 season. Making three appearances in duals for NU, Salazar finished the season with a 2-1 dual mark and a 10-7 overall record.
Salazar's campaign was highlighted by a 7-5 sudden victory over South Dakota State's Adam Everson in Nebraska's dual with the Jackrabbits on Dec. 7. Salazar also earned six points for the Huskers in their season-opening dual with Wyoming on Nov. 9.
Salazar was just one win away from placing in the elite division of the Kaufman-Brand Open on Nov. 17. He recorded two technical falls in a 4-2 showing, but came up just short.
2006-07
Regular Season
Salazar finished 18-9 in a solid redshirt season that saw him finish in the top five in three tournaments during the year at 149 pounds.
Salazar swept through the 149-pound amateur bracket of the Cowboy Open on Nov. 11, winning his first four college matches to earn the championship. He stretched his career-opening winning streak to seven with three wins in the first three rounds of the Kaufman-Brand Open.
Before Nebraska
Salazar was a three-time state champion and a four-time top-three finisher for Coach Mike Caciari at Valley High School. Salazar wrestled to a 153-6 record and capped his career with a 95-match winning streak. He won the 145-pound class 3A state championship as a senior, the 135-pound crown after a 39-0 junior season, and the 130-pound title as a sophomore to close a 39-2 record.
Personal
The son of Ernie and Kathy Salazar, Curtis was born in Greeley, Colo., on Sept. 24, 1987. He has one sister, Cassidy, and two brothers, Cameron and Corey. Curtis is a sociology major at Nebraska.
