A former Husker national champion, Jason Kelber was an assistant coach under Tim Neumann for three seasons from 1997-2000. He helped guide the Huskers to an eighth-place finish at the 2000 NCAA Championships, as NU racked up nine All-Americans during his time with the program.
Before joining Nebraska's staff, Kelber was the top assistant at Indiana for five seasons from 1992-1997. In that time, Kelber helped put together four consecutive top 20 recruiting classes for the Hoosiers. He was also a key ingredient in Indiana's ascension into the top 15 teams in the nation. In his first year at Indiana, the Hoosiers struggled to a 7-11 dual record, but over the next four seasons, Indiana posted a 52-19 mark, including a 16-2 record in 1995-96.
Before joining Duane Goldman's staff at Indiana, Kelber spent the 1991-92 season as a volunteer assistant under Neumann at Nebraska.
During his student-athlete days, Kelber had one of the best careers in the history of Nebraska wrestling, which he capped with an NCAA title at 126 pounds in 1991. He earned first-team NWCA Academic All-America honors in 1991. Kelber also won a Big Eight title for the Huskers as a senior. The State Center, Iowa, native claimed three NCAA All-America awards, taking second at 126 pounds at the 1990 NCAA Championships and sixth in 1989.
Kelber finished his career ranked in the top 10 in all of Nebraska's career record categories, including third on the all-time win list with a 123-30-0 record from 1987 to 1991. He ranked third in career dual victories with 59 and fifth in career falls with 47.
At West Marshall High School, Kelber claimed three Iowa Class 2A state championships and was a four-time state finalist.
Kelber earned his bachelor's degree in biological sciences in 1991. He and his wife, Renee, have two daughters, McKenzie and Madison, and a son, Jordan.
