Layne Billings Season 1986-87

Career Notes
1991- Billings completed his senior season compiling a 13-8 record overall and 8-5 in dual action. He earned four major decision victories. 

1989- Qualified for the NCAA Championships as one of the Big Eight's wild card selections after a disappointing fifth-place conference finish…rebounded at the national meet with two wins in four matches, both over seeded wrestlers ... avenged two earlier losses, including one in the Big Eight semis, with a 6-4 win over Oklahoma State's Mark Toarmina ... missed All-America honors by one match in losing to Edinboro's All-American Terry Kennedy . .. posted a 19-12-3 record in his first full season as a starter ... seven of his eight losses to ranked opponents were by a combined total of 17 points... ranked 20th by Amateur Wrestling News at mid-season... Phillips 66 Classroom Champion and Lee Jeans Academic All-Big Eight selection.

1988- Redshirted. .. compiled an 11-5 open tournament record, including a third-place finish at the Wyoming Cowboy Open ... also placed fifth at the USA National Espoir Freestyle Championships.

1987- Posted a 13-12-1 record as a part-time starter at 142 and placed third at the Wyoming Open as a freshman. 

Other- Three-time state finalist and two-time state champion at Nora Springs High School ... finished his prep career with a record of 112-7-1 ... Amateur Wrestling News high school All-American... class valedictorian.
