Wrestling at Devaney

Bill Ferrie lettered for the Huskers from 1983-1987 and served as team co-captain alongside Gil Sanchez during the 1986-87 season. Competing primarily at 142 and 150 pounds, Ferrie was known for his exceptional strength and explosiveness on the mat. 

As a sophomore in 1985, Ferrie placed fourth at the Big Eight meet and qualified for the NCAA Championships as a wild-card entry. Ferrie also earned a title at the Bison Open and placed fifth at the UNO Open. He posted an 18-17-0 record on the season. As a freshman (1983-84) Ferrie compiled a 10-14-1 record and placed sixth at the Lehigh Invitational. 

Before joining Nebraska, Ferrie built impressive high school stats in Minnesota, posting a 96-8-1 career record that included third and fifth-place finishes at the state tournament. He also placed fourth at the 1982 Junior National Tournament and captured the 1983 Grand National Championship at 163 pounds.
