Before Nebraska

• Wrestled at Underwood High School in Underwood, Iowa, under Coach Joe Stephens, who lettered for Nebraska three times from 1992 to 1995
• Four-time Iowa Class 1A state champion; 190-1 record in high school
• Two-time Iowa Dan Gable Class 1A Wrestler of the Year (2017 and 2018)
• Capped his prep career with the IHSAA Class 1A state title at 126 pounds to finish off a 51-1 season
• Won IHSAA 1A state title at 126 pounds to cap a 45-0 season as a junior in 2017
• Won state at 126 pounds to finish off a 50-0 season in 2016
• Captured state title at 113 pounds as a freshman in 2015 after a 44-0 season
• Was the sixth-ranked 126-pounder in the Class of 2018 by InterMat
• Rated the seventh-best 126 pounder in the nation in the Class of 2018 by FloWrestling
• Placed third in the challenge tournament at 55 kg at the 2017 Junior Freestyle World Team Trials at the Devaney Center in Lincoln
• Won title at 126 pounds at the 2017 Greco-Roman Junior Nationals
